I am a Teacher
I am Emperor Charlemagne championing the principles of public education.
I am Socrates exciting the youth of Athens to discover new ideas by asking them probing questions.
I am Herodotus, Aesop, and Hans Christian Andersen revealing truth through countless stories.
I am Anne Sullivan tapping out the secrets of the universe into the outstretched hand of Helen Keller.
The names of those who have practiced my profession ring out as a Hall of Fame for humanity, and I have learned that it is my task to carry on their traditions: Buddha, Confucius, Sun Tzu, Moses, Aristotle, Plato, Jesus, St. Thomas Aquinas, John Adams, Samuel Johnson, Nietzsche, Booker T. Washington, Susan B. Anthony, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Woodrow Wilson.
I am also those whose names are not known or have been forgotten but whose lessons and character will always be remembered in the accomplishments of their students.
And I am a warrior, daily combating against peer pressure, negativity, fear, conformity, prejudice, ignorance, and apathy. But I can call upon my great allies: intelligence, curiosity, parental support, individuality, creativity, faith, love, and laughter ― and they will rush to my banners with indomitable support. That if I can succeed in giving the love of learning, the learning itself is sure to follow.
Throughout the course of a day I am called upon to be an actor, friend, doctor, coach, finder of lost articles, money lender, psychologist, salesman, politician, keeper of the faith, and always to stand before my students in loco parentis. I have learned that these are humbling responsibilities.
More humbling still is the thought of making a mistake as a teacher. I have learned that a lawyer's mistakes go to jail, a doctor's mistakes go to the morgue, but a teacher's mistakes are turned loose on society with potentially devastating consequences for all. So I have learned that never doing anything less than my best is something I must not only teach, but live.
It's true that a doctor is allowed to usher life into the world in a single magic moment. But I have learned that a teacher is allowed to see that life get reborn each day with new questions, ideas, and friendships; that education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation as is reborn in the next.
It's true that an architect knows that if he plans and builds with care, his structure my stand for centuries. But I have learned that if a teacher builds with love and truth, what he builds will last forever ― that a teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.
I have learned that, while material wealth is not one of my life's goals, I am a full-time treasure seeker in my quest for new opportunities for my students to use their God-given talents, and in my constant search to discover their talents that sometimes lie buried in the doubts of self-defeat.
I have learned that a teacher always teaches what he or she most needed to learn. That our own life's lessons are the ones we are keenest to impart, and that these lessons we are certain to provide with utmost clarity as we speak from the wisdom gained by personal experience.
I have learned that despite the charts, diagrams, tables, formulas, labs, stories, and readings, I really have nothing to teach. I have learned that the only thing a teacher can give a student is what that student already possesses. In other words, my students really have only themselves to discover and I have learned that it takes the whole world to tell you who you are. And I have learned, and teach therefore, that the unexamined life is not worth living.
Thus I have learned that students have more need of models than of critics. That a great teacher never strives to explain his vision, but simply invites others to stand beside him and see it for themselves. This is because education, to be successful, must not only inform but inspire.
Quite simply, I have learned that education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire; not what is poured into a student that counts, but what is planted and then grows because education is what survives when the lesson has been forgotten. I have learned that being a teacher comes with it the responsibility for not only sending students away with as much knowledge and skill as it is within my power to help them discover, but more importantly to send them away with the ability and inclination to use those skills to help themselves and others. Even better than good fences, I have learned, good citizens make good neighbors.
I have learned that there is a difference between knowledge and wisdom, and I impart the former to help students in their life's acquisition of the latter; wisdom is the one treasure that no thief can touch. This means, I have learned, that there are times when it is best not to help a student ― if I believe that student can overcome their struggle and gain wisdom in the process, I'm doing them no favor in shielding them from it.
Tragically, I have learned that I can't save every student no matter how much I want to (and this was a heart-breaking lesson). The old joke is a truism of life: How many psychiatrists does it take to screw in a light bulb? Only one, but the light bulb has to want to change. Similarly, I can only teach a student who wants to learn; some students drink at the fountain of knowledge while others merely gargle.
I have learned that I am a paradox. That I speak loudest when I listen the most. That the job description of a good teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary. And that my greatest gifts are found in what I am willing to appreciatively receive from my students. That for being a teacher, I am no less a student.
I have learned to honor those who study politics and war so that others may have the liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.
I have learned that it is my constant task to take a room full of live wires and see to it that they are grounded. That a teacher's day is one-half bureaucracy, one-half crisis management, one-half lesson plan, and one-eightieth epiphany (never mind the arithmetic). And that many a true word is spoken in guess.
And I have learned that I have a past rich in memories, and a present that remains an exciting, challenging adventure, filled with joy and fun because I am allowed to spend my days with our future.
And who do I have to thank for this wonderful life that I am so blessed to live? My teachers, of course, and you, the public, the parents. For you have done me the great honor of entrusting to me your immortal contribution to eternity, your children's education.

ReplyDeleteA teacher for me is someone who inspires and encourages us to strive for greatness, live to our fullest potential and see the best in ourselves. For me they are one of the role models in our society because a role model is someone we admire and someone we aspire to be like. Actually a role model can be anybody a parent, a sibling, a friend but some of our most influential and life-changing role models are teachers. We learn through them, through their commitment to excellence and through their ability to make us realize our own personal growth. We look to them for advice and guidance. Teachers who help us grow as people are responsible for imparting some of life’s most important lessons. Teachers are founts of experience. They have already been where their students are going, undergone what they will go through and are in a position to pass along lessons, not only regarding subject matter, but lessons on life. I hope that all teachers would remain as a role model not only for their students but also to everyone.
ReplyDeleteOur teachers serve as our second parent but my teacher taught me not just to write with proper capitalization and to read with diction but she taught me how to be a better person. She always make me inspired whenever she reads my journal and writes comments. Even though that was just a piece of paper but it really means a lot to me. It helped me to be more responsible and to never lose hope. It really motivates me. I really appreciate all the efforts our teacher Have exerted. Thank you for being understanding. Indeed, I could say that you are great teacher. Danke Frau. :)

ReplyDelete"he who teaches learns" that is the best quotation for every true teacher.For they suppy our info needs and at the same time we share ours. By the process of enlightening us of the things we need to know, we slowly build a bridge of communication in which we share our thoughts. Its true that teachers and students are complementary, we both supply our knowledge and love needs .
ReplyDeleteLOVELOTS!!!
My teacher also serves as my second mom when I'm at school. God gave us teachers so that they can right the mistakes that our parents can't be seen when we're with them. Our teacher is always there to teach us something new. They're the one who counsel us for wrong doings when we are in school. Students are really stubborn but our teachers always extend their patience for the students. Thumbs up for all the teachers out there who teach us everything when it comes to school works. =)

ReplyDeleteMy Teacher not only taught me those ordinary school stuff like reading, writing, counting, and computing. My teacher taught me how to Speak out, to not be afraid of saying your opinions. My teacher taught me to be brave, They thought us how to identify right from wrong. My teacher urged me to do the best that I can and was always there to support me. She was there to comfort me when I'm feeling down and always finds a way to make me smile. Since we were small children, teachers had been our companions, they had guided us to the right path and helped us achieve our dreams. Without teachers there would be no Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers and Politicians. They became our second parents, they became someone whom you could go to when you have problems and doubts. To me, being a teacher is not just a profession, it is a gift made from heaven. Without our beloved teachers we would not be where we are right now. So to my Beloved Teacher Thank You So Much and Please remember that You'll Always be in my Heart.

DANKE FRAU!!!! COOLEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Before they become a teacher/s there's a teacher/s first who teach them to become a teacher and teacher/s who become their second guardian because Every child should have caring adult in their lives.And that's not always biological parents or family member because it can be a friend or neighbor.Often times it is a TEACHER.All teachers are not the same like their attitudes, how they deal to their students and etc. and especially they have their own techniques on teaching.They have different ways on how their students will understand the lessons which can apply on their life.Teachers that never give up for those students that always importunate, talkative, sometimes bully, and etc in their class are not good to be seen because if you are going to see them, as a teacher your first impression is, you think that they don't have any ambition/s in life because of what they show in class and sometimes students don't want seriously going to school.Now as a grade 10 student, I realize that being a teacher who stands in front in an hour/s, making visual aids for their lessons, making a lesson plan and etc. are not easy to do.As a student I want all that efforts that they have done for us to become worth it and in simple way like listening while they are teaching,making assignments and etc.And I wish all students in this world would realize that their teachers are not just a simple as teacher that teach them everyday in school.Teachers in this world has great powers to control our life because they are the way to achieve your goals in life.I believe on the quote "my teacher,my hero" because as simple as that it is very meaningful that everyone must know, remember and understand.For all teachers that never tired on teaching and serving our society to help the students like me to reach my goals.GOD BLESS AND WE SALUTE YOU!
ReplyDeleteThey say teachers are a hero. And yes they are literary but also in everyone of us. Our teacher is have a wonderful heart even if they look mad,angry on the time they teach us. We are so grateful to have a teacher have a long patient in our excuses. we always do activities such as we can't attend their class every time. A bunches for stories and jokes we discuss even if its not our topic but they relating some stories so we can learn. Its so happy that a teacher even they so tired doing thing about our school and about us? they teach more powerful and they motivate us to learn in their class. Its not about what they impression to sometimes we have a teacher that we love and some teacher that we hate. We can be fair for the things we do. But we have always a special treatment, we don't know that this person we can't bash her in her personality,she's kind,and lovely person I know and she is my TEACHER we can describe her in many ways but only love i will always give for this person I always have everyday i got to school.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY TEACHERS DAY god bless you for being a teacher a mother and a lovely and kind friend for us maam weloveyou and i salute you :) :)

"A teacher takes hand,opens a mind and touches heart." This quotation can further explain how significant are they in our lives. Not literally taking a hand but instead leading his/her students in the right path. Maybe away from vices or preaching them about the true essence of life. Opens a mind, when we're in school. Basically, that's their main job. They teach us how to count,to read and to write. But try looking on the other side of their personality. They help us to enhance our skills and talents. They give some advice when they see that you're on your deepest point in life. When you get a failing grade they are worrying about your future so instead of scolding you, they find solutions to fix your problem. Imagine all of their GREAT SACRIFICES. The teacher themselves are the framework of our personality. They work hard so that we can obtain a good quality of education.Without them we can't achieve our goals in life. So better go chat them and say thank you for everything.Last but not the least is touches heart. Being supportive and showing affection are some of their characteristics that I admire. Why? Because only few have this kind of feature. As a matter of fact,teacher is our second parent here in this world. They are key to one's triumphant. So to all teachers in the world, I SALUTE YOU. You'll always have a special place here in my heart. Godbless
ReplyDelete-Kyowtie Jeff :)
In my opinion, teachers are not just only a teacher that taught us to be knowledgeable and promote critical thinking. However, a great teacher should be much more than credentials, experience and intelligence.
ReplyDeleteEncourage contact between students and faculty;
Develop reciprocity and cooperation among students;
Encourage active learning;
Give prompt feedback;
Emphasize time on task;
Communicate high expectations; and,
Respect diverse talents and ways of learning these characters attitude but it is not complete without compassion and empathy. Great teachers bridge gaps and build relationships, friendships, and a community. Teachers always seek to make things better and improve things in and outside of the classroom. Building a community is something a great teacher seeks to do in the classroom and extends that to the entire school and its community. Those characteristics for me is the heart of teaching.
