Reflection for the Poem "Desiderata"
By Alexis Luciano
Grade 10- Rizal

When I was reading the poem "Desiderata" there was something that is unique that can open up our hearts in reading  the poem. It has the power to invade my mind and every mind of today's generation. I think  every stanza of the poem has a magic that can touch our hearts.Learn from it even though some words are difficult to understand. We can try our best to understand what the writer wants to tell us about what's happening in the surroundings. Nowadays the young may not  know who Max Ehrman is, but the poem "Desiderata" which literally means "Desired things leaves an indelible mark in the minds and hearts of the readers.

Full of amazement when I'm reading it. This poem is not just a simple poem but it is simply a guide to us. This poem has an impressive and deep meanings in every stanza of it, that allows me to love the poem. A lighting torch that one could carry as it traverses in a path that is sometimes be darker.

One of these inspirational poem caught my attention and realize something. "If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater or lesser person than yourself"

Stop comparing yourself to other because God loves you, He creates you to be unique, Bitterness are effect of insecurities. We should be contented what God gave to us as an individual. We are the writers of our own books. For these "Desiderata" is indeed a masterpiece composed of perfect words that  heart can  hear it. It is important to keep it in our heart and mind and to apply it in every angles of our life.

And last but not the least is to be at peace with God for it's the most important of all, Because with God, nothing can stop you in pursuing your dreams and peace will reign in our heart.

  1. Mr. Luciano's essay is simple yet it is interesting and has a very good message. I like the way he inserted quotes to incorporate with the poem, because it added to color of his essay. I also love his message; that you should never compare yourself to other people because you are extraordinary in your own unique way. For that, this work deserves all the praise.

  2. Mr. Luciano did a good job in expressing his feelings towards the poem. He explained the poem well especially the part where comparing yourself to other people is not a good thing. I understood what the poem is all about just by reading his reflection because honestly I haven't read the poem yet and this is a lot of help.
